Sing

Sing, 2005. 1'30
A lollypop stick sings a haunting lullaby. This piece was originally made on location in a bar in Amsterdam. It is part of a number of spur of the moment videos made in the last year. There are five versions, each singing the same song. Each version has performed individually on small or large screen but also as a sort of out of sync barbershop quartet.

As usual its a bit mundane. It's practice music for the saxophone, played by my daughter. I lowered the pitch and added some reverb to make it more mournful. Most of the sound I use is found, usually by accident though the odd bit is self composed.

I doubt it was your intention, but when this film was screened at the Norwich Animation festival last year, the cinema erupted with confused laughter.

This video is really eerie to me in a way. Though, it is wonderful. I wish the camera for filming was a bit better, but whatever. Your daughter can play well!

It bought the house down, mate. After some of the dramatic stuff we saw, it really lightened the mood. No one saw it coming from miles away.
