Doesn't alter the fact that Apple cannot keep up the technological pace. That profit is an overhang of previous success and not indicative of the future. Unless they get in there first with the next device that we don't know we need yet they are destined to be swallowed up by their competitors. Bad policy does not bring success... at least in the long term.

I took the information from Wikipedia, which quotes the respective stock markets. Don't be an ignorant, I don't like the iPhone or Apple but I like information to be correct (I have a Motorola Defy+). Here are the profits of the mentioned companies in 2012:

Apple US$ 41.733 billion

Google US$ 10.74 billion

Samsung US$ 6.32 billion

HTC US$ $603.8 million

Motorola (can't find for 2012, can't be over 500 million, US$ -145 million for 2011)

So 10.74 + 6.32 + 0.6 + 0.5 = 18.16 < 41.733 billion US$
