This poor Beagle puppy has Beagle Pain Syndrome also known as Beagle Meningitis or Steroid Responsive Meningitis. This is a very painful condition (as you can see he is very uncomfortable) which normally affects puppies and young beagles but can affect adult dogs. It can only really be treated with steroids and a beagle will normally grow out of it. In the UK the Animal Health Trust are currently collecting blood samples of affected dogs so they can research this condition. Please contact the UK Animal Health Trust for further information if you have a Beagle that has been diagnosed with Beagle Pain and are able to provide a blood sample and health history from your vet. This is very important research so please assist if you can. For more information on beagle pain syndrome or providing a blood sample to the Animal Health Trust, please feel free to contact me.

  • I just made a video of my golden retriever experiencing a relapse of steroid responsive/aseptic meningitis. You Tube could provide an excellent teaching tool for vets who have not observed a case of this awful disease. Thank you so much for posting your video. I will also post mine once we confirm the SRM diagnosis.

  • I don't know what to do. My beagle is showing this same behavior... And she is 5 years old. I don't know what to do... She is shaking on the rear legs and seems pretty unconfortable all the time. She refuses to eat anything that's not extremely tasty, things that she would normally eat, and she seems really sad, and she cries when even just walking.

I'm thinking of taking her to the vet, but the vets here are complete assholes... No ethics, no respect, no nothing.

  • Hello, my beagle is doing much better. You definitely should take your dog to the vet if he's experiencing these symptoms. The vet will likely give you an anti-inflammatory and pain killers. I STRONGLY suggest you have your beagle's thyroid levels checked via blood test. And keep the walks very lite for the next 6-8 weeks. Let me know how it goes!!

  • Hi.

How is your beagle? My 5 year old has the same I think. I need to take her to the vet on Monday.

  • Wow thank God I found this video! My 5 year old beagle is doing the same thing but his shoulder blade/chest/throat is the area that is twitching. He get's tired really fast when he walks and seems very depressed. I'm taking him to the vet today and will bring up this condition! Thanks!
