This is one of my bamboo shrimp sifting the sand for food. Please note that this is NOT normal and it means that they are starving. If you see this happening in your tank, you need to read up on how they feed and what you need to do.

If you need advice, please PM me rather than posting comments here. I am trying to keep the conversation clean and to the topic.

  • Can you keep a Bamboo shrimp with some ghost shrimp? Or will the ghost shrimp get eatin?

  • Bamboo shrimp can only feed themselves with microscopic detrius. They don't even have claws, just specialized fans to feed. You won't have problems with both species

  • um....those frsh water or salt water? and um...plz btw.....plz send me a message explaining everything i must do for my um..."pregnant" ghost shrimp....PLZ help....she has the lil egg sack under her abdomen...PLZ PLZ PLZZZZZ mesage me all the things i should do in order for these lil babies and her mom to survive during this, im new to ghost shrimp, thank you !!!!

  • The tank in this video is a freshwater tank. You can find tons of articles on how to breed ghost shrimp on the internet.

  • do you feen him anything special, I just bought 2 yesturday and although my tank is 2 years old and well established I am afraid that it might be too clean

  • I drop sinking pellets for bottom feeders sometimes and also powdered brine shrimp. It helps if you have a strong current or a place where the bamboo shrimp can get close to something like that so they can filter the water and catch microscopic foods.

  • I have one with a betta they do not mind each other but i have not seen him eat yet, is there a prablem, i have a driftwood and an anubis plant with nim and have two algae walfers that were crushed up in with him

  • learn2internet: In the wild they eat phytoplankton and zooplankton, but most of the time aquariums under 10 gallons or aquariums that have been set up for less than six months do not contain enough of these foods to feed bamboo shrimp. If a bamboo shrimp is observed trying to scavenge for food on the substrate using its fans, this is a sign there is not enough food in the water.

  • @almightyshux Many say this, but what do they base their knowledge on? It seems to be perfectly natural for them to forage this way as well as filter feed.

  • i read when they are sifting through the gravel like that they aren't getting enough water ciculation to filter for food

  • k thx

  • Mine died the other day :( I think old old, he had the full white stripe down the middle of his back that they get at full maturity
