Effectively, Ireland brought the British Empire to it's knees and made a laughing stock of Britain by becoming completelty independent and thus breaking up the Union, and bringing about the fall of what was the United Kingdom!
-
.... They had to rid the country of the British Army by War, after much war, they finally declared their independence from Britain, and left the commenwealth, thus cutting off all ties and links with Britain!

Yes Ireland needs the UK, the UK is like Ireland's biggest trading partner, and Ireland is the UK's fifth largest trading partner, Britain trades more with Ireland than China and Brazil put together! And you've got it wrong with the separation causing the angst and bloodshed, it is the union with Great Britain that is causing all the angst and bloodshed in Northern Ireland, and when Ireland as a whole was occupied by British Army troops (or united as you may like to call it, lol) ...

@GDYP Ireland is not a British Isle, it is quite a distance across the Irish sea until you reach Ireland, Ireland is a large enough island to be classed as it's own island rather than an island of Britain, I mean look at a map of the world and look at Ireland and Britain, Ireland's size isn't that far off Britain's in the grand scheme of things!
Ireland has it's own indendent culture completely different to that of Britain, Ireland has it's own economy different to Britain.

This video is rather misleading. Though the people of Northern Ireland have the right to be British or Irish or both, the fact is that a majority of the people of Northern Ireland do not want to join the Republic. A Life and Times survey earlier this year showed that 52% of Catholics and 90% of Protestants in Northern Ireland prefer remaining part of the UK. For economic reasons mainly, the Northern Irish poeple wish more "freedom" from influence of the Irish government than that of the UK.

@GDYP because ireland has its own culture and people, we are,and have always wanted to be soverign to our own country, not under the flag of a foreign monarch! The attrocities committed by the british when they ruled ireland against the will of the people are infinite, also, look at scotland,we they joined the U.K,look what happened, their culture and language were destroyed by the crown,Ireland is Irish, not british.

@itsjustmacker Get it into your thick skull that Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. Put it whatever way you want, but it won't change the political position of Northern Ireland.
26 counties are bankrupt, owned by the krauts.Deutsche forever! lol lol lol.

The passports say "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", Not the UK and Ireland.

@2491cc Yes, That is correct, it means Northern Ireland IS NOT A PART OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, nor Great Britain ,but others will deem to disagree, So to them i will say, Please read it without being bitter, its easy to read "All after the word Britain", speaks for itself.

Hugh

ireland is a British isle.. why cant they be part of the uk.... the uk is not england but a union of multiple nations with similar cultures, economies, and languages...
ireland needs the uk and the uk needs ireland... and all the separation just makes angst and bloodshed...
GDYP 1 year ago
@GDYP how can Ireland be a british Isle?, Ireland has nothing to do with Britain, albeit, those who want to stay under the British flag in some Northern parts of our Island, It is seperated from UK by Irish Sea.
