Toontrack is the world's leading producer of drum samples since well over a decade. With its industry standard drum sampler platforms, EZdrummer® and Superior Drummer® 2.0, Toontrack offers literally all the tools and drum sounds you'll ever need; from metal to country via electronic, percussion, funk and anything in between.

All drums in this video were sound replaced from the original recordings using Toontrack's sound replacing software Drumtracker®. The sounds heard come from Toontrack's SDX line for Superior Drummer® 2.0 as well as the EZX line for EZdrummer®.

  • This stuff isn't just for guitar players and songwriters. As a lifelong drummer (and part time composer, songwriter, and crappy guitar and bass player) writing my own stuff, EZ and Superior help me get started in ways that I haven't been able to do with playing live drums. When I'm behind a kit, I'm a drummer - think like a drummer, muscle memory like a drummer, etc. But when I'm trying to write, using their midis and sounds to start with, it's easier to get to the songwriting part.

  • @oedasdawer What i've found out is that sometimes i get better sounds when micing my kit (11 mics) and sometimes i get better sounds when triggering/blending/programming. It's very different depending on what else is in your mix. And as for bands like Periphery i think it's a cost/time thing to use superior drummer. The differance between mixing a real kit and superior drummer isn't that big at all (wich is why it's so good). On a real kit u just gotta do some more raw mixing, such as gating.

  • @oedasdawer I know EXACTLY what you mean a lot of bands these days don't have the drummers play an Ekit they just program drums. For metal mixs its all about triggered drums, 99% of metal albums in the last 5-6 years have triggered/replaced drum sounds so when its standard it just kinda makes sense to record like that from the start. but a lot of people don't know how to make replaced drums sound even close to realistic, and can't play the songs live, periphery can pull it off live tho, amazing

  • @Harley0barley I know Periphery and actually like their music a lot. But the record sounds too digital and lifeless in my opinion. What I find annoying is that a lot of bands (especially in the metal genre) use e-drums instead of real drums on their records nowadays and some of them don't even try to make them sound real (e.g. the human abstract's album digital veil). Is this all just because studio time is too expensive and the recording and mixing of a drum set too difficult?

  • @oedasdawer Toontrack samples are used on a lot of professional records, for example Periphery's self titled album is entirely superior drummer go listen to it!

  • @oedasdawer You could always use an e-drum kit to play them.

  • Are those samples really ment to be used on professional records? I mean they do sound quite similar to a real drum set but you can't replace a drummer with a software.
