My "basketcase" comment does NOT reflect my personal and professional beliefs about individuals with autism, but rather the gist of what many parents are told by doctors. No, the program is not for everyone and no, it will not always have positive results. Raun never promised that the program would work for everyone, nor did he offer it as a "cure". Your comment may have been a poor choice of words, but it's still negative and may deflate the feeling of joy by parents who have been successful.

PS - I don't think your comment saying otherwise they will be a 'basketcase' will be of much comfor to parents who have tried sonrise. I work with these people who can still be helped to lead independant and meaningful lives via other means

I work with young people w. autism + some parents who have tried sonrise without success. He still advertises using words like 'cure' which I strongly feel is misleaading. This has also left some parents I know with feelings of guilt which I though we'd moved away from.
So - apart from allowing me freedom of speech re you 'keep it to yourself' comment and it being 'without backup' - I do know what I'm talking about. It can work of course but parents need comments to say sometimes it doesn't

False hope? Raun himself is living proof this program works. Son-Rise offers an alternative treatment program to parents who refuse to believe their children will never be anything but a basketcase. Every child is different and not every child will develop as well as Raun did, as he clearly states in this interview. The point is that this program gives them the chance to realize and achieve their potential. Your negative statement is worthless without backup, so next time, keep it to yourself.

Years ago, we saw our daughter's Autism as tragic & were on the verge of divorce. Thanks to Son-Rise, the Autism Treatment Center of America, Options and the Kaufman's. I highly recommend to anyone dealing with life's challenges (not just Autism) that you read "No Regrets" by Barry Neil Kaufman. The book is an amazing journey of love & growth.
