Some video of our hike @ High Falls State Park.

We have not been to this park in 24 years. The last time we visited this park our car was broken into and my purse and camera was stolen!! This trip to the park was uneventful though. :-)

The day was hot and muggy but we really enjoyed the hike. The trail which goes along the Towaliga River is pretty easy although the first half of the trail is very rocky and the trail was longer than what trail guides say. The trail was supposed to be less than a mile.....but I'm sure it was closer to 2 miles. The trail has many side trails where people have gone off the trail to get back to the river so it is hard to follow the trail without keeping a close eye on the trail markngs on the trees.

The second trail named "tranquil nature trail" was 2 1/2 miles and winds through quiet woods. This trail is also an easy walk. There is a third trail which is very short and gives some history about the Damn built in 1902.

We saw lots of frogs and lizards and birds and squirrels. We were told that river otters and muskrats could often be seen...... but we didn't see any. I'm not even sure what a muskrat looks like? A large RAT??

  • On Eastern Shore of Md (Delmarva) muskrats are hunt and eaten. YOu can buy them in the seafood store, or order them at Daytons family restaurant in Salisbury. If you can get past the beady yellow eyes, they taste like roast beef!

  • LOL.... I thought you were joking w/ me. But, I googled it...and yep, you are right. Lots of muskrat recipes out there!! Who knew!! I'm not gonna eat muskrat though!! Have you eaten it?

  • Great Video of our beautiful High Falls waterfalls! Thank you!

  • I GREW UP HERE!!!!

  • LOL....never heard of sand fleas either!!

  • Hubby also does a good job frying sand fleas, the tiny crabs at the edge of the water on the ocean. tastes like soft crabs. dont get me started.

  • Hubby has hunted and eaten them. I have been in Daytons restaurant when they are in season in the winter. I observed many diners with full stomachs and empty plates with little rib cages sitting up! Smells good, but just a little "too bizarre"for me. Where's zimmern when you need him!

  • the falls are just breathtaking!

  • Thanks for sharing. Muskrats look like a cross between a rat and a squirrel. they have thick fur and live near the edge of the water

  • Beatiful, Rita!!! Nature is so breath taking.
