Eric Idle played women so well because he didn't exaggerate. He seemed to understand that the differences between men and women are subtle, not big and broad; he barely made his speaking voice any higher. As a result he plays women wonderfully and doesn't come off in the least like a cross-dresser or caricature.

@kayper54 'Blue Peter' is the name of a flag flown by a ship about to leave port. Why it was thought suitable for a children's programme isn't especially obvious, but that's what the BBC thought. As the show has been running for about 50 years, I don't expect there are a lot of people around now who know the rationale for the original name.

@manygate10 Hm, now I wonder why the show is called "Blue Peter." Is there are character called Blue Peter? I'm afraid it isn't among the British shows we get on BBCAmerica so I know nothing about it.

Never seen this one before! Crying!
Does anyone know whether this was a parody of a specific TV program or just another one of their brilliant off-the-cuff ideas? I love the addition of that ginormous dog.
