Guys, this song is deep, but i get it like this: She needed time for something, she was afraid of something, and the other person couldn't wait anymore... And when she wanted to make things right, he just wasn't there anymore.. Very sad, very true... very deep

It's not a stupid question! ;)
It's the same as the review mirror in a car (the mirror where you can see the cars behind you). On this song review as the meaning of someone on her past...
When she says: "I looked on my rearview and now I dont see you" it's like she looked into her past and figured out that that person was never really there...
This makes any sense to you? LOL
