Soccer fever has spread throughout South Africa as it currently hosts
the 2010 World Cup. This mega sporting event has created a new patriotism which some hope may heal the wounds of racism that still
linger after the end of apartheid in 1994. Unfortunately, the
economic polarity between black and white South Africans has
increased de...spite the existence of a ruling black government, the African National Congress. Critics say the cause is globalization and an inadequate government. What you
are about to hear is the voice of Sikhumbuzo Sibali, an 18-year-old student from an advanced science and
technology school in Khayelitsha, one of the most poverty stricken areas in the Western Cape. He will describe the conditions many black South
Africans are subjected to. This photo-soundslide project was done in conjunction with Students for Humanity and graduate student Sharis Delgadillo from the USC Annenberg School of Communication & Journalism, who is currently reporting from
South Africa at Cape Town Television.
