There are different versions of Islam practiced all over the world. In Pakistan and India, and Middle East, it is OK to say you can beat a women lightly. In the west women have fought for equal rights and earned their rights and equality from men. That's why American Muslim scholars use "different translation of the verse", which doesn't translate to beating. Even in that case, the verse assumes that men are somehow in charge of women and need to discipline their women.Simply Amusing.

No one has a right to beat their wife, what if the husband needs to be stopped, should the women start beating their husbands. Also does it mean men are more intelligent then women and they know better. What are you trying to say, that women are like sheep?!
The Shariah is open to question, so is Quran, so is Hadith. We are called ashraful Makhluqat for a reason, that is we are supposed to use are intellect. There are no 10 steps to lead an Islamic life. I

Islam and the prophet did show respect towards women and clearly told men that they should respect women and their wifes,, they have equal rights.. in order to understand this fully you will need to look in to Islam rather than jumping to conclusions.. if a man did disobey his wife and beat her up, leaving marks etc then am srue he would get puniched in the hereafeter..Muslim men clearly no this

what he is trying to say id you can beat your wife lightly if she doesnt follow islamic principles and disobeys.. apart from that they can not hit if they have issues with their wife they might as well divorce them.. he is saying just like a father might hit his child due to doing somethign wrong he can hit his wife lightly..so sometimes when children take a wrong step a father may warn him or say i will hit you in order to stop him from doing somethign wrong especially if it is dangerous..
