CAUTION - DANGEROUS SHARP BLADE!!!
IF YOU ARE EVEN A LITTLE KLUTZY, DO NOT TRY THIS!
DANGER, DANGER! KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE BLADE. DANGER, DANGER!
This is a brief view of my setup for cutting mystery braid slits in half inch wide leather strap.
The Strap cutter is held firmly in a small vise, with a piece of leather to protect the wood from the metal vise jaws. The width is set by taking a piece of paper the width of your strap, at least three inches long, folding it in thirds, and adjusting the strap cutter with the folded paper between the blade and the guide.
The blade is set to stick out above the wooden protector bar. It sticks out just slightly higher than the leather is thick.
CAUTION - DANGEROUS SHARP BLADE!!!
I cut my strips to length, and punch holes for snaps ahead of time, then cut the mystery braid slits.
PS - It is much easier to cut the slits if you have stropped your Strap cutter blade first. Even a brand new blade cuts better if it is stropped before being installed.
And for those of you who want to BRAID a mystery bracelet, I show you how to do it in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibD4nR_ucpU
HI, the video is good, the idea how to make this blank is even better.
in order not to cut your hands one could use pliers and hold the blank with them
it is going to be quite comfortable, i think, i the pliers have good handles and grip and if they are not too big
(just and idea)

@Tala1276 I have plenty of pliers that would work for that. I have used them at times, but I find using pliers a bit clumsier. If you are watching to make sure you are holding the pliers right, you might be paying less attention to where your fingers are.
Plus, the plier jaws, even smooth ones, mark the leather unless I make leather tip covers for them. Suede doesn't mark as badly as veg tan though, and I am doing suede strips in this vid.
