Remarks by Carlos Eire, during the conference "Operation Pedro Pan: A 50 Year Perspective" held on November 18, 2011 at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa in Florida
I read Prof. Eire's memoir, Learning to Die in Miami for an English class for my undergraduate English minor and was deeply moved by it. Majoring in Political Science and having always been fascinated by the period of the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis is a topic I have studied both for class and on my own, quite a lot. I never did hear of Pedro Pan however until my Latino Lit course (taught by a sweet, little, old Jewish lady oddly enough) I'm so happy to have stumbled across this video.
Thank you for posting this, it was both amazing and wonderful to watch.
