Even 632 AD if we count from Kubrat's Great Bulgaria. Asparuh's Bulgaria is direct ancestor of Great Bulgaria. Thus it is correct to say 632 AD and not 681.

From all the nations in Europe today, Bulgaria is in fact the oldest, dating back to 681 AD. We have shielded Europe from Arabs, Avars, Mongols and Turks before our fall to the Ottoman Empire. So we have been around for long time and it's good to "be back" ;) I just hope the rest of Europe's people start appreciating us and our culture for who we are. Come visit Bulgaria. Europe united!
