A silent location setup, the highly polished crowd, a short intro of Richard Hell, and then Hell's remarks as host of the National Book Foundation's kick-off party for National Book Awards week.

The November, 2009, "5 Under 35" event was the fourth annual occurence of what has become the highly-anticipated kick-off party/reading for National Book Awards week. In a nod to Brooklyn's status as the literary epicenter of New York City, the Foundation has moved the event to the Powerhouse Arena in DUMBO. This year's emcee is musician, novelist, and all around he-man of letters and music, Richard Hell, founder of the seminal punk band Richard Hell & the Voidoids.

You can see a fuller description of the evening as well as more video footage at http://www.nationalbook.org/5under35.html

  • Richard is looking great ~ nice to see him continuing to be active in the scene, and in apparently good health.
