You are quite right concerning religion in Russia. Unfortunately it's impossible to see what Kira said before skating.. In any case it was not her day!.. She was a great skater, one of the best in Russia. And the pressure was tremendous. RIP.
horrible program. terrible. but I have to admit that I like something about her speed and flow over the ice. too bad she couldn't handle jumps or even spins. her music selections clashed too.
What in the world are you talking about. The Russians are not historically atheists. The Soviet government tried to ban religion, but the Russians have a strong history of Russian Orthodox Christian religion and it was practisied semi-secretly during the Communist reign by the majority of the Russian people. Good grief.
The Soviet Union forced her to retire from competitive skating. She coached children in Moscow. In 2001 she was found in her apartment stabbed to death.
I watch this not for her horrible skating but for the comments. Bitchy and classic.

I remember watching this when it was originally broadcast and thinking how bad this program was. Just boring and not emotionally gripping.

This video reveals an interesting detail at 0:08-0:10
I cannot read what word is there in her lips, but I expect she is praying.
And I was sure the Russians were atheists.
