Sweet Game

No team has won four in a row....
Not Jeter, Jordan, Messier or Gretzky
or been to five consecutive finals in a row since.

None of these guys were signed free agents.
90% of the team was drafted.

It's the best run of any sports team ever.
Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig never had to win 19 consecutive playoff series.

No team has ever made worse trades and financial decisions than the Islanders either ;)

It was great how this team grew together into champions - as the Canadiens did before them, & the Oilers (blech) after. Teams just don't have unique identities like this anymore. Al Arbour , 28-9 in playoff OT.
I was at game 5 against Pitt. in '82 when Arbour pulled Smith to get a time out. They then tied the game & won it in OT!! The place was going bonkers!!

Agreed. And this is coming from a casual NHL(Rangers fan to boot)fan. In Hockey especially in the post season where 'upsets' are common due to the 'hot' goalie, for a team to win 19 straight playoff series over 5 years(including 4 titles in a row)is something I dont know will ever be achieved again in sports.

A team winning 2-3 in a row like the '97-'98 Red Wings, '98-'00 Yankees and '00-02 Lakers is the closest.
