A police sergeant is called to an island village in search of a missing girl whom the locals claim never existed. Stranger still, however, are the rituals that take place there.
What are you blathering on about in your big capital letters? Rowan Morrison is NOT his daughter. In fact, Sgt. Howie is a virgin.
They don't burn him for fun you know. The whole point of the sacrificial burning is for a stronger harvest.
His coming to the island of his own volition. His being a virgin AND then resisting temptation (from the landlord's daughter) are all some of the necessary factors that make him the perfect sacrifice.
@Kaagh178 The area I live is very famous for witch burning. The stories are quite incredible, a testimony of a young boy who said he was late because a witch turned him into a snake, he identified a local woman and she was arrested and burned as a witch. What's interesting & what I don't think people realise is history has been amended, so the 'witches' were not witches but pagans, who were going about their alchemy, a secret knowledge the christians burned in Alexandria.. check out Rosicrucian
@Elibobbob You have a good understanding of Paganism and some nice historical points. As I understand, a high portion of witch burnings were actually burning innocent people out of fear and paranoia. Although obviously they did use evidence (whether falsified or real) to put people to death. The way I see it, I've interpreted this film's message as saying that religious extremism can only end badly. The extremist Pagans are sacrificing people and the Christian extremist is arrogant and ignorant.
@Kaagh178 I don't think you realise if you're a modern Christian you are worshipping pagan idoltry, covertly, because you don't know this. This because the pagans didn't cease to exist when the Christians were busy burning witches (pagans), they were intellectuals and embed into art their pagan beliefs, which is not so infused with Christianity no one knows where christianity end & paganism begins, the lines is blured. Open you're eyes & you'll see. St John The Divine Cathedral NYC an example.
@Elibobbob What point? Pagans are portrayed as the villains of this film. To all the Christian bashers making arguments on Wicker Man videos, the protagonist is a Christian extremist, the antagonist is a Pagan extremist. Now I don't mind Pagans, but the message this film sends to me is that Pagan extremism which involves blood sacrifice is just plain evil. I mean come on, when was ever burning someone alive counted as a good act? Fortunately modern day Pagans aren't nearly as bad as this.
"Good God these people can't be that mad" arrr no you're the Christan and you're the mad one!.........Christianity is a parody of pagan traditions where they put a man called jesus in place of the sun god horus.. I watched this as a child in horror, in adulthood I understand the point it makes, and a very good one too.
@dazzlindarrent its the worst Movie ever... he wanna rescue his daughter from this place and they let his own daughter burn him to dead, are you a psycho that you think this its the best movie??
