Sounds like you need to ask Lon yourself. Try contacting him here: bunchgrapes [dot] com

We have a small vineyard too. Some things that he didn't mention about grapes is how fragile they are.

They can only be pruned in the very early weeks between winter and spring.

They also attract hundreds of bees when you go to pick them. So whoever picks them will most likely get stung (I've been stung).

Grapes take years to grow, a good plant may take 3-5 years to mature and produce lots fruit. The grapes only keep for 3-4 weeks on the vine before spoiling.

    Growing grapes in an art.

Thanks for sharing your experience on grape growing, CMLovejoy. Lon does prune during those times. If you get the sense he wasn't thorough with his info, that would be because I was focusing on his story of how he got interested in growing grapes and fruit trees, for that matter. I don't want anyone to think this is a 'how to'. Lon's expertise goes way beyond this short video!

This was a great video, you did a great job on it as you always do ;-)

My point is that grape growing is very difficult and not at all easy (unlike corn). I think this man the "Grape Grower" is a bit of an artist at his craft.

    Thanks, CM. =)

I'm with you on it being an art...I have some vines in my backyard and I hope they survive my learning ways!

I wish Lon would have lived long enough to write that new edition. His book and CDs are fantastic. So are his grapes. I have six different types that he grew.

Or you could contact your local Extension educator. If you live in grape-growing country (that is, if your climate is suitable for growing grapes), there will be locals who can tell you what grows best in your area. If it's hot, try a Mediterranean variety like Cabernet. If it's cool, try Reisling.

Informative, been looking up stuff like this in case we enter another great depression. Can't depend on the government for everything. ( Have no desire to anyway)

atbestvague, on behalf of America, thank you for exposing this fruity graperrorist. he comes across as anyone's grandpa, when all along he only wants these grapes to be destroyed in a senseless gastric act.
