At Comic Con 2008, Geekscape's lovely Faye interviewed Hamlet 2's Steve Coogan. The movie is hilarious and so is the interview.

  • 24 hour party people is the bomb. Coogan has been around for miiiiles longer than Gervais and is still funny as shit.

  • "his films are crap" 24hour party people was really good. with his performance a stand out as tony wilson.

  • When talking to Americans he occasionally sounds like Alan Partridge trying to put on an American accent, like in that one episode.

'Let's saddle our horses and git ourselves a curly cumberland sausage from the Little Bitty Chef... Little Chef.'

  • The nerd interviewer is trying so hard to be funny.....um awkward

  • First, bonus points for bringing up "Saxondale." Second, lol Coogan knows it's the geeks who know Alan Partridge in America. "Geeks-slash-cool people." I'm slightly embarassed.

  • That doesn't mean he isn't smug. Gervais seems to be at odds with many things but only tackles them through his characters, leaving him clean as a whistle.

Gervais' interviews with Ross are basically 15 minutes of pretend put downs and ego stroking. "Animals" was brillaint, but the ones since have been pretty poor. Reading from his script on stage with a can to show hes "one of us". The Office and Extras are both brilliant though, but Merchant deserves a lot of the plaudits too.

  • Gervais's smugness is part of his humour. Surely you can see that? He uses it in his stand up and in interviews. His interviews are far more entertaining than Coogans. Compare Coogan and Gervais's appearances on Jonathan Ross. Gervais owns Ross. Coogan finds it difficult to one up Ross.

Coogan's films are crap. Coogan is better at characters and doing stand up in character. No one would pay to see him be himself. Gervais is better at stand up & in interviews. Both are comic geniuses.

  • I find an informative interview more interesting that Gervais being smug for 10 minutes. Steve's characters and movies both outshine Gervais's

  • so when does the hilarious interview start?

coogan is never funny or engaging in interview, unlike gervais. i love his tv characters, but his films are crap and never do well in the UK. he is much better known for his tv in the uk. in his early days he was a very bad comic impressionist on stage and flopped at the edinburgh festival so that is why he folds his arms when she mentions impressions as he is not best known for that over here at all. partridge and calf is what he is famous for.
