JESUS - THE MOVIE (1999) - PART 1 of 12

Jesus (1999) is a Biblical telefilm that retells the story of Jesus. It was shot in Morocco and Malta.

It stars Jeremy Sisto as Jesus, Jacqueline Bisset as Mary of Nazareth, Debra Messing as Mary Magdalene and Gary Oldman as Pontius Pilate.
The film is notable for presenting a more human Jesus, compared to more solemn portrayals in earlier films; here Jesus laughs and cries much like anyone else. Among other things, he weeps at Joseph's funeral, throws stones in Lake Galilee when meeting Simon Peter and James son of Zebedee for the first time, dances at the wedding at Cana, and starts a water-splashing fight with his disciples at a well.

Satan is portrayed as a man in modern dress (and as a woman in red, but the former guise is more prominent). During his temptation of Jesus, he shows him the Earth from the vantage point of space. Satan also shows Jesus images of wars and destruction carried out in his name.

The film adds an apocryphal Roman historian named "Livio" who watches and comments as events unfold; he is presumably named after Livy.
The movie's featured lead original soundtrack is "I Need You" by LeAnn Rimes.

CAST INCLUDES:

Jeremy Sisto -- Jesus
Jacqueline Bisset -- Mary, mother of Jesus
Armin Mueller-Stahl -- Joseph
Debra Messing -- Mary Magdalene
David O'Hara -- John the Baptist
Gary Oldman -- Pontius Pilate

  • i dnt know why some people think that if it wasnt in the bible then it couldnt of happened. the gospels that the apostles wrote down, the ones that made it into the bible as well as those that did not, were never meant to be the entire truth of what happened. the man yeashua would of had to lived, just like all of us, and that means there is ALOT that he must of done that the apostles disciples never mentioned.. right?

  • @escorpious3 THANK YOU!!! And the bible itself says that, why do people miss this point all the time? Well said!

  • I have been looking for this movie for years! I think it is wonderful that Jesus is portrayed so well.

  • @xtianssk Maybe you are saying what you are. God gave man laws and they rebelled and went against Him.That is how all the evil came upon the world and the different religions and versions of religions.God is the law and the religion. The bible is a document of the various dispensations through time and how God dealt with the people. Of course there was immorality, people did evil, broke laws.Rev 22:18 no one shall add or take away from the bible without punishment.

  • @xtianssk You are just being nonsensical in what you say. If they did not have the Bible, documentation ordered by God (Jeremiah 30:1) you people would be saying where is your proof, how come there is not a book. You can't please non-believers no matter what is given to them. It seems the only thing you know how to do is call people insulting names which regardless of your argument does not make you or what you say credible. What is not of God is from the devil. Can't be envious of that.

  • @xtianssk im sorry english is not my first language. The bible is the truth. I respect your believes.

  • nobody should play Jesus they're not good enough

  • @TheVaughan5 It is named 'Jesus-the Movie'. Which book based movie has Ever followed the book verbatum? None, I would venture to guess. This is a movie based on a book. Thus, we should expect some creative license.Do we take the works of The Bard to be English History? Then again, who can say that the words the writers wrote were not Inspired by God! We know little, but what we read from one text who's chapters were hand picked by men long ago.

  • @TheVaughan5 Sorry, but The council of Nicea did not create the doctrine of the deity of Christ (as is sometimes claimed) but it did settle to some degree the debate within the Early Christian communities regarding the divinity of Christ.

  • This should be called " Jesus - the Hollywood Movie" This guy is TOTALLY unconvincing. in fact the whole thing is like watching modern characters dressed up in ancient costumes! The Gospel of John (also on You Tube) is a million times better.
