  • Our family lived there from '77 to '79. Our house was 410 and you can see it behind the bus stop at the 6:12 mark of the video. Batcheller Family. Peter, Janet, Keith, Ryan and Gretchen. Great memories living there. Went to Byrd and Kinnick. Collected hundreds of Minko cards, played baseball and was a total scrounge. Love the food to this day! I was 8-10 years of age during this time. Dad was on the Midway out of Yokosuka.

  • @Kbatcher3 Hey, you lived close to the Japanese school. They used to come over the hill and try to talk to the older blonde haired boys. Haha. At the top of Fire Engine Hill, did you ever play in that bamboo fortress someone hacked away? Ever come down the hill and toss the ball in the recreation areas?

  • This is awesome. At 5:09 the house on the left was my house (1976-1978). Heading down to the right was Fire Engine Hill! Got to revisit this area in 1999. No signs of Navy Housing at all to be found.

  • @ronehall I've seen some pictures and that part of Honmoku was turned into a park. I like how the imprint of the streets is still there. Did you happen to get flicks when you were there?

  • @d5ive, unfortunately, no videos taken by me, but did take pictures, the path of the old streets are the only recognizable remnants of the Bayview housing area. If I recall correctly, "Fire Engine Hill" and the hill that came down behind Kinnick Middle School are paved still. I will have to check my pictures to confirm that

  • @ronehall The park seems really nice. I can imagine what that place looks like when the sakura come into bloom.

Do you have any pictures of the area when you lived there in '76-'78? I'm still trying to look for more older photos for that before/after piece I'm working on.

  • @Nivicoman - I would like to visit Japan sometime. you seem to be some type of guy who would collect Charlie Brown and Dennis the Menace books.

  • d5ive,

great work! This sure brought back a lot of memories of Japan... I was born in '68 and lived in Yokohama until 1980. I went to Byrd Elementary and Kinnick Middle School. Thanks again!

  • These songs came out 2 years after the last time we lived in Yokohama, across the street from the bottom of Fire Engine Hill. Went to KMS (6th grade). Mr. Eastman was my homeroom teacher and what other class I had with him I forget. Mr. Oate for science, Mrs. Okada for English. I remember Kenny Chestnut, Sammy Gentile, Yuko Snider, Hitomi Peters, Norman lewellyn, Matt and Bruce Phips, Carla Bletch, and a bubunch of others I can't recall names right now.

  • I used to live in Area 2 from 1976-1980. I was 6-10 so my memories of it are fading. Can someone send me a copy of the map that is used in this video? It would really help me figure out what my old building number was.
