Having spent years observing others force feed their cats tablets, often wrestling them to the floor and getting bitten, I thought I would share this simpler method with those who don't want to fight their cat.

(I have a cold at the moment which is why my voice sounds funny)

  • well, my cat eats the treats; and spit it out the pill...

  • @tealeh2 The trick is to make the cat eat it quickly. Don't put much in your hand and don't give them chance to sniff it or examine it. And don't let them see you put the pill in there.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!

our cat has cost us thousands and now he's got another infection and he needs antibiotics. Last time wegot a vet nurse, to try with a pill dispenser. After half a dozen tries and a chipped tooth (hers!) she gave up . Tonight I tried grinding it up with food , wrapping it in cheese, also the original method and hung on til he swallowed (twice) - then spat it out,

I was nearly in tears with frustration - then saw your vid.

Five minutes later he ate the pill outa my hand.

  • @loki1066 Yeah, the trick I have learned with cats is they don't like to do anything that isn't their own idea. By putting it in your hand they think that they had better eat everything as quickly as possible and don't notice the pill.

I'm glad that the video helped!

  • Is he swallowing the pill whole or chewing it? It's a neat little trick except that the pills don't work as well when they've been chewed - they need to be swallowed whole. You may want to double check with the vet about it but if he says it's fine then that's an awesome way to do it! I wish all the animals I've had to pill were that easy!

  • @simonpauljames Unfortunately he is no longer with us as he died of cancer in October - however the treats are very small and were generally swallowed whole. If taken with the bigger treats then he would be more likely to chew.

Feeding it to him from the hand made him want to eat it more quickly in case I took the hand away.

  • @Khafya what food is your cat eating - dry or wet? I give my cat the pill with a few pieces of her dry food

  • Hi , i think this video is excellent. keep up the good work :) BUT, my cat doesnt like treats.. yes i know.. what cat doesnt like treats right? but apparently my cat is a really fussy eater! what can i do? should i wrap him in a towel?

  • my cat is such a fussy eater and it is really difficult to get the pill down her throat using other methods. I can't use the regular forceful approaches but this one is as simple as it gets and it works. To my surprise, my cat just ate it exactly as it is shown in this video.

  • your cat is cool. click my name to see my little bearface.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I never thought this would work with our Nate! He's a suspicious and timid eater, has to smell things forever then the first bite he usually shakes his head and drops the food :) Thanks for putting this out there. Such little effort put forth and much kinder to our little guy! Btw he is, at this very second, nuzzling my face and purring up a storm on my desk Thanking me!(hard 2 type) He may have cancer, a vaccine related sarcoma caused by a VACCINE. Praying its benign!!

  • Thank you so much for the advice! Our cat refused to eat the pill that I had ground and mixed with soft food. Now I tried it like you advised and bingo! The cat ate both halves of the tablet along with the crunchy pieces! She did spit them out once or twice but I kept adding more food pieces and putting the tablet halves among them. I guess the trick is to have a hungry cat and not to show her what you are giving her (keep your palm cupped until she starts eating). Thanks a million!!!!!

  • So sorry to hear about yor cat. I would just like to sincerely thank you for uploading the video, thanks to your advice we our cat just ate her pill! We have been so worried & finding it impossible no matter what we tried, but she just ate it up with the treats. Thank you!

  • Sorry to hear about your cat, but thanks for the video.

Mine would not only eat everything BUT the pill, if they got it accidently,

they'd rocket it across the room!

  • OMG!!

    Can't believe it worked!!

I was chasing my cat around the house to give her the pill...and keep failing

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPlOADING THIS

    HELPED A LOT!!!
