A FED BEAR IS A DEAD BEAR

One of the first signs you will see at the bear park in any zoo is Dont feed the bears. This is so true in a bears natural habitat too. There is an old familiar saying A FED BEAR IS A DEAD BEAR. According the National Park Service, allowing a bear to obtain human food, even once, can result in aggressive, bear behavior. Aggressive bears are a threat to human safety and must be removed or destroyed. Help keep bears wild and safe. Do not feed the bears for any reason!

Protecting your food from bears, protects bears. Therefore, UDAP Industries Inc. a company in Bozeman, MT has come out with a new and exciting item. After more than 16 years of providing products to help people coexist with bears, UDAP Industries now has a bear proof food canister the NO-FED-BEAR™ available for back country travelers. This new item is an answer to the problem of bears obtaining human food. It is useful for everyone traveling in the backcountry.

The NO-FED-BEAR™ named from the popular saying above is designed for backpackers. When researching the product, we found that users wanted a little smaller unit than what was currently available. The NO-FED-BEAR™ can hold 4 days of food. It is lightweight, only 2.4 lbs. and measures 8 inches in diameter and 10 inches tall. The bear resistant container is simple to open and close. The container stores perfectly in you backpack or by attaching it to the outside with the available storage case. Each canister is made of a super strong proprietary polymer blend.

Testing by the Forest Service at the Missoula MT Technology and Development Center was just the first step to getting the canister approved for National Parks and public lands. The NO-FED-BEAR™ was also tested by bears at the Grizzly Discovery Center and by the bears at Montana Grizzly Encounter. The canisters passed with no problems.

Please, make sure that you store your food properly. A bear that finds no food in camp is more likely to become uncaring and move on to better pickings. The NO-FED-BEAR™ bear resistant container does not replace recommended safety measures. Never store food or odorous items in or near your sleeping area. For additional safety in bear country, have UDAP Pepper Power Bear Spray.

Suggested retail price is only $69.95. You can find more information online at www.udap.com or by calling (866) BEAR 911. Please do not hesitate to call us for questions and comments.

  • I am not sure of the point of a bear proof canister if he gets it its his it wont stop the smell enough that he wont try to get it .

  • @STRIKER520 The Idea is that the bear cannot get the food. According the National Park Service, allowing a bear to obtain human food, even once, can result in aggressive, bear behavior. Aggressive bears are a threat to human safety and must be removed or destroyed. Help keep bears wild and safe. Do not feed the bears for any reason!

  • @BearmanMT actually the scent of the food is a problem as well, if a bear smells the food, even if he cannot get to it, it will associate campers/hikers with food. Always use a odor proof bag inside your bear canister, and make sure you wash the canister if you contaminate it with food or other smells.
