Like the Alesis Fusion, the M-Audio VSM (Virtual String Machine) pales in comparison to the Polymoog, but is a useful and stable alternative. Sorry about the video quality here: The Polymoog (red) is the S8/R8 setting and the Vox Humana (green) sound is mimicked with an Arp Omni/bass. Keyboards are split respectively.

  • Nice idea comparing, but the Polymoog sounds richer than the String Machine. It's still great software though.

  • @bondbug73 I agree, the Polymoog is thicker sounding, and the VSM is excellent software. On a sidenote, the Roland Gaia is much closer. Not comparing it to my other demo of the Gaia vs Polymoog because that was based on the other video here on YT called "busted Polymoog". Some of the presets can be tweaked really close for sure.

  • @NickDrake101 I've seen a Polymoog vs Roland SH201 the other day on this site. That one is very good.

  • @bondbug73 I think you meant the SH-01...though the SH-201 can achieve the same.

  • You say it pales in comparison, not to my ears it doesn't and I couldn't tell the difference.

  • @maccagrabme Hey thanks I do appreciate your comment. Maybe I should rephrase: The original Polymoog had such rich complex tonalities that trying to exactly mimic it pales by comparison. However, the VSM does do an above average job in its own rite, and if it were assessed on its own it should be deemed a one of a kind polyphonic synthesizer.

  • @dfusion2000 Thanks for that info...I will look into it.

  • Polymoog wins hands down. I can't wait to get mine back from the tech....

  • @Peteyuse Yes of course I can hear it m8, only jesting. My point really is that the samples are easily good enough for playing around with to get a similiar effect or doing a cover. Not many people would notice any difference in a mix. There are some samples of this that are available free at vstream.be and I think they are much better than this example and very close to the original.

  • @maccagrabme Really? You can't hear the sound thinning out with the effect modulation?
