This is such a great series of tuts, thank you so much! I have a very nooby question: is the purpose of the gelcoat in the bottom of the mold just to capture detail and provide a smooth surface on the finished casting, or does it have another purpose? Thanks :)

Use less hardener in warmer weather...Thats All There Is To It. Ive been fiberglass for over 30 years and know what I'm talking about. You can also use Winter or Summer resins. Also SEE the HOW TO FIBERGLASS videos on you tube by GASSERGLASS..hes the best!

to make a smooth edge, (edges like you did on the star killer armor) did you fold over the sides or just Dremmal it and sand it to be round? also would it be possible for you to make a quick vid on tips of sanding and bondo-ing fiber glass? if not can you give me some tips?
thanks vid helped alot.

@2storyprops thanks for the answer :D
will you be posting any more vids?
thanks for the tutorial, you actually thought me more than my teacher at the unversity.
two questions tho, how long do you have to wait for the gel coat to be ready for the fiberglass? and would you mind showing us how you remove the piece from the mold?
thanks again and it's great that you took the time to show us these things :D

When waiting to apply the fiberglass cloth/mat, all you have to do is wait for the gel coat to harden. Certainly don't rush by any means, but you don't have to wait hours and hours.
As far as removing parts from the mold, the rubber I use is a flexible silicone rubber, so all I do is just peel it off the part. Nothing to it, really.
