Lead bassline most likely. I used to have friends who would compare a band to Tool if there was an audible bassline.

I seriously don't get the whole Tool debate.
Coming from a big fan of both bands. They couldn't be more different.
If the whole album sounds like something to me, it's a very, very jazzed-up progged-up Deep Purple-fusion thing. Like Ritchie-meets-Al-DiMeola or something. Besides, Ritchie's influence in Mikael's recent guitar work is obvious.
