In the Kazuo Ishiguro novel, protagonist Kathy H. adores a song called "Never Let Me Go" by a fictional singer named Judy Bridgewater. This is the song as featured in Mark Romanek and Alex Garland's film adaptation. The song is sung by Jane Monheit. More on the subject: http://www.thestar.com/article/868787...

While I was reading the book I thought it was a real song! The description of the tape case, the name of the song and artist... It almost seemed like I'd seen it before

I do really like this song but honestly the thing that really annoys me about it is that they don't include the word 'baby'. In the book the whole point of this song is that Kathy is interpreting the song as a mother who has a child that shes holding and doesn't want to let go as in the book the song goes 'Baby never let me go' Thats why shes holding the pillow as her 'baby'. I understand that films are never the same as the book but really that should not have been changed.

Not having read the book, the scene in the film where she listens to this song did absolutly not make me think of a mother-child relationship. I thought the pillow she was hugging was actually Tommy (darling) in her mind: hold me and never let me go...

well thats really an amazing work, they made a very old song in the modern era, even though its not really what we expected at the first place from the book to the movie version. but in the movie we can see how Kathy saying never let me go as the mixtape was given by Tommy and she didnt want Tommy to leave her bcs Ruth dated Tommy.

I acutally noticed that too and when I saw the movie I got disappointed because it is a very genuine part of the whole story...

Maybe she hears 'baby' in her head because she subconsciously wants to hear it. Of course Kathy isn't a real person, and Kazuo Ishiguro could have just remembered hearing this song and heard it wrong.

We all complete. Maybe none of us really understand what we've lived through, or feel we've had enough time.
