Chase partner Mike McMahon. Footage of a gorgeous tornado we spotted NE of Silverton, TX, off of the Caprock along Hwy. 256 on March 28, 2007. The tornado was on the ground for about 20 minutes, and traveled over unpopulated terrain. The tornado morphed through most of the various types during it's life cycle; elephant trunk, cone, stove pipe, wedge, rope. At one point, the sun lit up the tornado and enhanced the view of the red dirt it kicked up. It was one of 5 that we spotted on the day, and is the tornado featured on the home page of WeatherKnurd.com. I shot the video with a very old camera that was not set to infinity focus, unfortunately, so the footage is not as crisp as it should be. Still not bad though, considering the old camera and lack of tripod in those days (although this chase convinced me and I bought a tripod immediately afterwards).
