  • I am confused as to the pronunciation of X, In here and all other lojban videos I have seen, it is pronounced further back in the throat, but in the reference manual, it says it is a Voiceless velar fricative which does not have the same gargling sound. Which is correct, or is either acceptable?

  • @UNR3S7 In the velcli befi la lojban. bei loi co'a cilre, it describes 'x' as in the "German Bach, Spanish Jose or Arabic Khaled" (1.2). With Spanish and Arabic particularly, the pronunciations of these two examples varies widely from region to region, so it would make sense that in Lojbanistan, where the north and south have been at war already for two decades, pronunciation has begun to diverge between the two regions. I think you will be understood either way.

  • In Finnish pano means a fuck ( as in sex).

    :P

  • @eightsixzero Well looks like 10's your lucky number ;-)

  • papa=11 ?

  • @MrSuperpie46 Yes, you can say xaki'oki'o. You can also say xa gei xa (10^6*6)

  • @MrSuperpie46 xano ki'o?

  • @enigmamonkey92 ahm that's exactly why I asked, and I missed the MrSuperpie46 commentary where he mentions that ki'o can be a placeholder for one thousand, so no, it's kinda obvious that you can't say pa nonononoonononononoonono (pretty unpractical)

  • @Seomanineluki pa no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

  • How do you say 100 or 1000 or 10000 etc ?

  • @cometbah

A comma is expressed in numbers to help clarify that the number is thousands or millions etc. Pabimure is the same as pa ki'o bimure, but the latter is clearer.

Also, the term ki'o can be a placeholder for one thousand. For example, xa ki'o means six thousand; you don't have to say the zeros after the ki'o.

I also have a question for fellow lojbaners out there. Would 6 million be xa ki'o ki'o?

  • Hmm... Why is it that commas are expressed?

They are mathematically useless, if not obstructive, and do not contribute to clarity or ease of use. In fact, they detract greatly from effective communication between cultures
