American MD-80 Wingview on final for runway 17R at AUS. We missed a close taxi way by a few hundred feet. So to avoid rolling out to the end of the runway the pilot braked as hard as he could and did a turn around on the runway and taxied back to the taxi we passed.... All here on tape I didn't make it up.... And the last taxiway I know for sure wasn't closed.

  • If you miss taxiway Tango on the old runway (one they landed on in the video), you literally increase the trip back to the terminal by about two whole miles. Back taxi save a LOT of time if the traffic is light enough to pull it off.

Yeah it is quite a longgg taxi back if you roll out to the end. It's not the most ideal taxiway set up for 17R, but it works.

  • why u so excited bout that?????

  • @MyPilot747

It's certainly not something you see everyday.

  • So they back-taxi? Hmm, not something you see every day at Austin airport.
