Check out this GOGO beat, its funky. For more gogo stuff, listen to Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers (album: Gogo Swing Live), or "Makin' My Way Back Home" by Lettuce. Recorded on March 11, 2009 using a Flip Video camcorder.

  • @muchofunko thank u my friend!

  • This is exellent:) a heel to toe bass beat woulda added more crank

  • @TheLincolnGuy yes i agree. now that I've done some more listening, there are a few little subtle things I'd change about my execution on this beat. always good to say solid tho!

  • Go On White Boy!!!!!

  • @DmoneyLanier hahaha thanks dude!

  • The beat you're playing IS a go-go beat. The only thing is that the hi-hat would typically be played closed for old school stuff. Don't get bothered by the "You're not from D.C. so you CAN'T possibly know what a go-go beat is vibe. That's a bullshit attitude from people who are scared that you'll take what they've got. It's the "private island" syndrome and it smacks of ignorance. I don't get it - y'all should be happy that there are people from outside of D.C. showing an interest in go-go.

  • Dang dude....you kicked the hell out of them drums, Good solo

  • To all: I deeply apologize for my comment a year ago. I sincerly mean it. Get rockin the pocket. Crank!!!

  • @fatbackfunk hey man I appreciate it! I'll def take a look at all of these tunes... I'm listening to the Oz noy video you posted... HOLY... I actually just got to meet Vinnie the other night at a small club in Sherman Oaks, CA. Really nice guy, and def one of the world's best drummers. Huge inspiration of mine, same with Oz, I've seen him only a few times, but I'm really happy that he is continuing to tour and come out West!

  • Nice playing man..! and yep it actually sounds like you're playing along to "Makin' My Way Back Home" Deitch is one of my favorite players. I'd also recommend checking out E.U.-"2 Places At The Same Time" Trouble Funk-"Saturday Night Live from Washington DC" Trouble Funk-"Straight UP Funk Go Go Style" & Rare Essence-"Live At Breeze's Metro Club"..essential Go GO.. Anyway keep it funky..! And BTW don't even trip on these negative & pathetic comments.. what a joke..:) Take care..

  • @theCrankBrothers Seriously? Wow that's actually kinda sad man. Way to support your fellow musicians. 20yrs you been in the game huh? Well then why not just offer some friendly words of encouragement and perhaps even some tips/advice rather than just shoot the guy down for simply being enthusiastic about Go Go.. I mean OK you don't approve and/or think he's playing it "right"? Fine that's your opinion, but what's with the "stop trying or copying" what the hell does that mean? Lighten up..!!

  • this is pretty good for someone who's not from dc

ps: this is coming from a DMV native :)

  • yoooo....this is nice. I grew up in rockville in the 80s and miss gogo. You look like you are freakin 15.....but you know your gogo my friend.

  • i dont understand what is so special about gogo it sounds normal and like u just want to sound like a gangster drummer and in know way is drumming gangster its like its own catagory

  • man u was on point son....jus did that old school gogo beat...u needa check out some of the new stuff...check out TCB or Reaction Band...n search for "Bounce Beat" ...thats dat new school stuff out now!

  • that bass you got kickin dogg... how long up been playin

  • Yeah, Go-Go Swing is a classic (though Any Other Way To Go features the non-edited versions of those tracks). Check out Doin' It Old School Style by Rare Essence. Oh, and RE's version of "Do You Know What Time It Is?" is one of my favourites. I got a chance to hear Chuck, Backyard, Rare Essence and E.U. a couple of years back in D.C. and they were all super tight, but Chuck is the man - a very charismatic performer with a great band behind him.

  • yeah i got some backyard band stuff... but my favorite one is chuck brown go go swing live

  • I'm a bassist who's been writing my thesis on go-go and I've been analysing go-go drum beats for the past few months. I might not be from D.C., but I'm not talking out of my butt either. Anyway, for some more updated variations on go-go, check out Northeast Groovers, Backyard Band. Then there's the more recent stuff by some of the more bounce-oriented bands like TCB, and TOB. My favourites, however, are still Chuck and Rare Essence.

  • haha i appreciate the love man. Adam Deitch was the first guy to introduce me to GoGo music, and I've loved checking it out ever since... its SO FUNKY, which is what I'm all about.

  • dont listen to that fool man, you a smooth drummer. What he expect you not from DC lol.

  • yoo why yaull gettin on him for?!?!?!?

like real talk he will shit on all yaull with the drums, shit he aint from DC soo wat u expect. Let him learn the pocket and he will be fine. Yo Pawkit keep doin yo thing my brother, ur style is real smooth, im a drummer from DC and ill show you how it is.
