I'm going to be posting a series of videos that are really compilations of still pics taken over the last two and a half years while I've been building our house. My wife, ravensky23 on YT, has also helped when she wasn't working. The house is a timber framed, posts and beams with oak pegs holding it all together. This first vid is after the foundation was poured and I am assembling the sill structure. Ravensky23 is behind the camera, so you can't see her, but she and I did this portion of the raising ourselves.
The music playing is from our favorite band, Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams. We've nicknamed named our house Moondog House after this song of theirs. Please check them out on the links below. They are fantastic and I'm sure you'll have a good time listening to them.

The lyrics!
Moondog House
I got a moondog house
On the edge of town
I turn the music up
I pull the curtains down
And then We cruise all night
Our secret rendezvous
Lit by the Inner Light
And i'm alone with You
And We dance
Like the fleas on a dog in the night
Yeah We dance
'Til Our feet leave the ground and the light
Shines thru the darkest places
Some people go to church on Sunday
Kneel and pray
Well i say God bless them
If they can go that way
But me i have to wait
Until the sun goes down
Go to my holy shack
Out on the edge of town
I try to spend my days
Just doin' all i can
To help my fellow woman
And my fellow man
But when the sun goes down
And i start gettin' blue
I like to spend my time
Being alone with You
And We dance
Like the trees in a storm in the night
Sweet romance
'Til the stars all bow down to the Light
I never wanta come
Skideli beat da veeta
Beta da bow
Skidelido deeta
Veeda da bow... (or some reasonable facsimile)
And We dance
Like the fleas on a dog in the night
Yeah We dance
'Til Our feet leave the ground and the light
Shines thru the darkest places
I gotta moondog house
I gotta moondog house
I gotta moondog house
I gotta moondog house on the edge of town
So, yeah, this comment is much after the fact, but it looks as though you are using reclaimed wood for much of the construction - is that the case?? It's really looking like a wonderful home in the making - of course I came here backward - from Ravensky's videos back to here. Well done.

Thanks for watching and commenting, it's sort of reclaimed... I started with an incomplete two story timber frame purchased from an owner/builder in Canada and did some repair and replacement. All the grey checked Timbers are spruce milled in Northern Ontario about 10 years ago.
When I get the rest of the raising vids compiled you'll see some local hardwood replacement parts plus pine timbers in the one story additions.

Wow! So do you have a cold room down there for veggies and whatnot storage? That's an awesome start!

The basement is pretty much wide open at the moment with about half the 'floor space' having ~4ft. of head room. We built right onto ledge so the status of the basement was in question right up until the forms came off the foundation.

Believe me, set aside a space for "cold" storage if you're going to have a veggie garden or put up jams & stuff. I loved having a place for onions, shallots, potatoes...
Damn, I like this song! I'm going to check out your link.

They're a great band to see live, especially in a small venue. Some of the interaction on stage and with the audience is priceless.
We fully intend to have space set aside for "cold" storage, just not sure where it will be until the furnace, hot water and fuel tanks are installed.
