This must have been a great concert. Driver 8 is a great outdoor song. When you sing about trains, it's best to be outdoors.

Stipe was depressed in 1985 and gained a lot of weight. 'That was my Marlon Brando period', Stipe has said in a interview.

This was recorded on July 1, 1985 for the German WDR / WWF "MUSIC CONVOY" TV show in Nordrhein-Westfalia. Host Englishman Alan Bangs is one Germany's most renowned Rock journalists and radio djs. Bless him for taking REM into the show when they were virtually unknown in Europe.
