actually your incorrect. 12th was the best they FINISHED. As far as qualifying goes, they were the fastest in GT1 for that year. places 1-5 on the grid were LMP cars. 6-8th were held by Ferrari F40's with 6th running a 3min55sec lap time. The Fastest Mclaren took 9th at 3min57sec , and that Mclaren is the one that went on to win. That's what he was getting at, as it was reliability that kept Ferrari from being more competitive, not the speed of the car.

Actually your incorrect as well. The Ferrari FINISHED 12th, but qualifying they were faster than ever McLaren F1 in 1995. Fastest F40 LM place 6th on the grid with 3min55sec. The fastestMclaren (#59) placed 9th with a 3min57sec (this car later won it's class)
Conviently, 7th and 8th were also Ferrari F40's on the grid.

Yeah, dig the Tipo 33...pity you couldn't hear its' engine much. I'm diggin' flat-crank V8s more and more...purity of purpose, don't y'know...

The sound of it when it stretches out on the straight gives me goosebumps.

Wow...the BBLM actually got by the F40LM...that's amazing....!!!

not true...it's a great car but there's a video floating around of an in-car lap of the race along with andy wallace in his F1 overtaking multiple F40 LM cars throughout the track. fast yes but not the fastest car that year. the best they did was 12th and a handful of different manufacturers beat even that one including a nissan skyline and NSX. the fastest lap in race and qualifying was made by a Peugeot WR LM94

The F40 LM... great car. The fastest car at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Didn't win due to issues with reliability, but its fastest lap time and recorded speed say something, considering that the car was about 10 years out-of-date compared to its main competition, the McLaren F1 LM. And the exhaust note - purely musical!
Credit where credits due. The F40 came out in 1987, the Mclaren in 1992. Thats a large difference.
I would much rather have an F40.
Man Americans are rubbish at making race tracks.

Ok but give the F40 a little love my friend. It was the FIRST production car to break the 200mph barrier. The F40GTE was 10 years old compared to the F1GTR. Even though the F40GTE had 630Bhp, and weighed 1100kg, had a twin turbo 3.0l v8,the F1 did its research of course and mad a rocket. 6.1 liter V12 cramed into a 1062kg car with around 680hp de-tuned to about 600hp for the Le Mans race. Sure it kicked ass, but the F40 had already acheived its glory, they come and go. Where are they know
