We've been called a few times this week by phone number 23456789, suggesting we need help with our pc. I was bored so I decided to play along a little as I was curious of their techniques.
Sad and lame but I could see someone who doesn't know better falling for it as they:
1. Get you to open event viewer and review your application log for warnings. You will always find stuff there, so they are playing on fear.
2. Then she gets me to look for a serial number (ya right) by comparing the clsid of the sendto context menu option (on every windows pc) to try and "authorize" that they know it is our computer
3. Finally, it is off to a website which is where I pulled the rip cord as I don't need any nasties on my pc but no doubt where they start doing the bad stuff
i just got phoned by them. while the guy was talking i went and searched google for telephone scams. Saw that i was about to be had- then unleashed a shitstorm of abuse on the indian 'rex daniels'. i hope they phone back and ill waste their time and play dumb. dirty rotten bastards
