A funny documentary of my pet red-ear slider Seaweed ;)

We rescued him from the East River in April 2006. He was painted red by some Buddhists who made it a practice to release turtles by the crate into the East River believing it would buy themselves good karma. We found that out when more and more turtles were found DEAD on a shore we passed by frequently. The East River is a salt water environment and not a habitat for red ear sliders, some were dashed to death on the rocks before they drowned in the salt water. Whenever we found survivors on the shore we would bring them home, keep them until they recovered their strength or until their wounds healed. Then we would release them into the turtle ponds in Central park.

Seaweed was the very first turtle we rescued and we kept him for 5 years like a family pet. Unfortunately we couldn't really provide him with real sunlight and his health began to go downhill. We decided he needed an outdoor environment and released him into the Japanese pond at the Brooklyn botanical garden on 7/12/2011. Hopefully he will be happy there getting lots of girlfriends and basking whenever he likes.

  • Lol the title of the song is shown from the beginning!

  • painting your turtle is not just stupid and idiotic it also helps your turtle not recive the right amount of sunlight it needs

  • I didn't paint the turtle's shell, please refer to page 5 of the comments.

  • Some of you people do not know what you are looking at so I, CharmeC's boyfriend, will explain, patiently, that all of our turtles were rescued from the East River, where they can not survive for more than 4 days. We have spent significant sums of money and taken much trouble to care for the turtles we have rescued, almost all of which have been either dangerously undernourished, suffering with shellrot, eggbound, or all three.

  • Red Eared Slider? why the red shell? how did that happen?

  • Lol shrek ;-

  • Hujkj & CharmeC, you should put the info on how you rescued these little guys in the description to keep those who are too ignorant to take 5 seconds to look up your earlier comments from raging at you, & making you copy and paste your messages over & over to stop their nonsense. Some people just like to complain about anyone & anything they can, & 90% of those people troll YouTube. You've done great things & being thrashed with ignorant comments is far from the praise you deserve.

  • I know it's a RES but why is his shell red?
