  • Many of my generation (DOB late 60s-late 70's) grew up seeing men show respect & etiquette. But with the rebellious winds of time (& a few gusts of pride) decided it's "old fashioned" and "I gotta be me!" I admit it is a "small" matter, but isn't that how society got where we are--"just" one small tolerance at a time? Next time I'm dressing for church I want to ask myself if I am honoring God? That just might mean I will not wear the same clothes I'd wear to my biz-casual job!

  • ELDERS in the informal setting kept looking at me cause of my doo rag. I looked like a biker! I carry my rag with me in my pocket dor such hair emergencies. Anyhoo i didnt do it out of disrespect. this is a rural church wear guys are still wearing their overalls and come from the fields to have BIBLE STUDY. at the end of the meeting we had prayer and they mentioned the 'hat' at prayer. im glad i didnt get an open rebuke! i think!. maybe i could have deffended my choices so they would understan

  • BTW he doesnt wear his toupee everywear cause of the wear and tear of daily wearing it. when he was working and earning money it was easier to get it retreaded so to speak but now retired he dont have the money so wears it seldom to get as much miliage of it. its very costly to keep it up and he is on a fixed income.

I myself went to prayer meeting in the backroom by the church's kitchen once wearing a dew rag cause my hair was such a mess and had no way to fix it for the group. The ....

  • and he wouldnt cause he knew very well the church would judge him harshly and he doesnt want to call attention to himself. i understand that . GOD KNEW IF HE WENT TO THE SERVICE WITH A CAP IT WASNT OUT OF IRREVERENCE OR BAD MANNERS! it was cause the wolves attack even though they look good in sheeps clothing and no baseball caps on their heads.

  • my dear christian buddy went prematurely bald at 18 is now 58 had is head disfigured grossly by docs in the 70's and wears either a cap or toupee wherever he goes! not even his mother has seen his naked head. at church and court he wears a toupee but stores and parks and peoples homes he wears a cap. we were at a church outdoor retreat together and he forgot to bring his toupee and decided to skip church. this was an informal setting and i begged for him to go with me inside....

  • C.S, Lewis, in the "Screwtape Letters", addresses the delusion of judging the behavior of others in church. Very interesting. It is one more way the evil one gets to us, even as we sit in the House of God. Let us be utterly blind to the faults of others. It is enough to be concerned with our own.

  • I was raised in United Methodist Churches in Oklahoma in the 60's. You didn't dare wear a ball cap in worship back then. Now many Meth.s have become very liberal. I agree it's bad, but maybe the one drinking & eating is a fireman or cop who just got duty & didn't eat before the service. If they have a cafe in church, install speakers in there to hear the sermon. We allow water but no food in the sanctuary. A dress code would take care of caps. Or a sign saying "Please remove all hats." ?
