Award Winning Interior Design by Thomas B.

The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation located in Washington D.C. is an organization that supports research and action projects in education reform. Having purchased two full floors in a 1920's building near the White House, our client wanted an office design that would reflect the company's forward thinking culture while respecting the quality of the existing building's architecture. The reception area features custom [bend] sitting and a curvilinear desk that guides the visitor onward through the space. The T-shaped and narrow floor plan presented a unique challenge in the configuration of the space. This successful design by OTJ was awarded the 2008 IITA Design Award for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

The client's vision was to create an operationally divided yet open feel workspace that would visually flow. The glass-walled main conference room, adjacent to the reception and executive offices, is equipped with telecommunication features and a customized conference table.

The secondary conference room which also serves as a resource library is centrally located for convenient impromptu meetings. A combination of materials such as natural woods, laminates, and glass were used in order to create a light, flowing, and clean feel to the floors, walls, and ceiling.

Workstations and private offices surround the secondary conference room for easy accessibility. Personal workstations, separated by mid-sized panels, divide individual areas while optimizing the goal for spatial expansion and openness.

The conference hall located on the 7th floor is spacious and flexible to serve any number of needs. It is generously outfitted with two flat-screen televisions and large projection screen to enhance any presentation, meeting or function.

Taking full advantage of the building's location and views of the White House just a few blocks away, OTJ provided a rooftop lounge with a wealth of chairs and tables as well as a fridge for entertaining. OTJ's design for Fordham exceeded client expectations and with thoughtful design decisions delivered a space with function and form.
