4-5-1982,Madison Square Garden show.Randy Rhoads unfortunately passed away and could not play this one.I remember in a interview TV show in 1983 where they showed the Irvine Gillis show clips,Ozzy said that when he got to the Madison Square Garden show he was in heaven.Torme did a great job but said he was uncomfortable with the gig feeling he was more of a blues rock player and could't do the songs justice.Either way not too shabby,Rhoads style was new at the time and still is.

  • Yeah,If Randy was a close friend like they say he was they should have. But you know it's all business to Sharon.Even today with the butchering of Blizzard and Diary with the awkward and clumsy drum and bass fills from strangers that didn't even know Randy. Its very upsetting to a legit Randy Rhoads fan.

  • He probably wanted to cut down on production costs, and maybe because it was a concept created at the beginning of his solo career with Randy Rhoads.I wish he would bring that set back with a guitar player that would be creative and mind-blowing like Randy,Brad were.

  • Considering he had less than a few days to learn the stuff and he had NEVER heard any of Randy's stuff before I think he did good.

Balls of Steel indeed to step up to the job.

  • I gotta give credit to Bernie for doing an excellent job filling in.

  • Ozfest is the house that Randy built

  • It would have been my first show. Hats off to Torme, he didn't even want to play that strat ozzy bought him. He was using randys pedal board too. He saidnit kept giving him trouble nd he felt bad using it. Fucking Irish axe slingers rule.

  • @SmittyHeWasNumber1 sharon didnt want to pay royalties to bob and lee. cause bob and lee were taking them to court n 02 and the same yr. those 2 new cd's came out.

  • Ireland produces some great guitar players, Gallagher, Moore, Bell.. Torme and Campbell.

  • I saw Bernie with Gillan AND Ozzy. (have GREAT pics from both shows) Bernie is the best. Listen to "Lightning strikes", off live album. Case closed

  • WOW he only had 4 days?!?! i commend bernie as he sounds like he had more time. sounds great for sure.

  • Can't ever say anything bad about Bernie...I was at the MSG show in '82 and everyone was in total shock over Randy's death. Bernie had no time to learn the material.

People cheered and clapped but it was sort of to pay tribute to Randy...kind of a "show must go on" thing. I wish that Bernie would had stayed as even tho' they played different styles,Bernie had his moments (check out his playing on Wild West...)

  • @Azotronia Bernie didn't really want the gig,but did it to help out the Ozzy camp cause he was planning on releasing a album at the time, but put it on hold to help fill in after Randy's death. He said he really didn't want to be there, but did it out of respect for Randy. Brad was brought in cause they knew Bernie wasn't planning on staying for the whole tour. Read all about it in "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: The Battle for Black Sabbath" by Garry Sharpe-Young.

  • @Azotronia no brad asked after the tour was finnised if ozzy wanted him to stay and ozzy said -go and do your own thing

  • Bernie Torme did 6 shows with ozzy. my dad saw two of them. considering all that had happened and what everyone was feeling, he thinks bernie did a great job, and started listening to Gillan and the Electric Gypsies (Bernies band). The guy is a very talented musician and was the only one willing to step into Randy's shoes.
