The New York chapter of GrammyWatch.org held a major press conference on May 22, 2011 at the NuYoRican Poets Cafe, in protest of the recent decision to eliminate Latin Jazz and 30 other categories of American music as seperate Award categories. Hosted by WBAI's Ibrahim Gonzalez and moderated by reknown 4 time Grammy nominee, Bobby Sanabria, the panelists, which included Larry Harlow, Arturo O'Farril, Candido Camaro, David Amram, Ileana Palmieri, Chris Washburne, Bryan Lynch, and many other known record producers and media writers, spoke on the ill fated decision. Amongst other criteria, the panelists called for the resignation of the CEO Neil Portnow, and for an investigation to the illegal voting procedure that was enacted by NARAS, weeks after the Grammy's telecast, which saw an increase in Ethnic support within the voting ranks of the general membership. This is Part 1 of a series of clips that will be aired presenting the statements of the panelists and supporters of this critical protest.
