Our last Fishing trip for 2007. We are catching a fish called "Black Fish" AKA "Tautog". My personal best tautog day ever. Myself had 20 fish for the day, and 13 were keeper size. Over 14 inches that is. The boat had a total for the day of 36. for 5 men on the boat.

  • are there no limit to how many you can catch?

  • @gqkev12

Yes you were allowed 8 fish per man to take home back then and 14" size limit. I'm not sure what they are these days.

  • What boat are you on?

  • @bostich36

The boat was the"MissLynn" Out of the Shark river in NJ.

  • are they good to eat ?

  • @tumadoireacht I think they are one of the better eating fish out there. Good solid meat, nice and white.

  • After it does a consecutive bite and "takes the bait", I yank it up and you have to keep reeling. Tautogs tend to go underneath rocks after they eat the bait so you can not give them the chance to do that. If the fish does go underneath the rock, it's a hassle to undo the line and make the jig again. I have been blackfishing for about 4 years now.

  • after a few bites next time it hits yank up rite away

  • @tasmania105 We used green crabs, cutting off the legs and cutting the whole thing in half, on the larger ones. tiny ones were used whole.

  • @joeyferreira100 I use a "Cape Fear" 3/4 - 3 oz. 14 - 30 lb Heavy 7' fast action rod. Its an octagon shaped rod.
