quick test starter motor

quick test of old spare starter motors that I need to ferry across country tomorrow to hopefully help revive a 200tdi landrover defender after a monkey made an abortion of its starter. I think the bosch doesn't sound right, I know it was originally removed faulty - the cheap chinese one should be okay as a do-4-now, anyhow it's all I've got.

What does it mean if it spins nice but wont kick out

@partyhouse88 It means the starter 'dog' gear is sticking so it would not engage with the flywheel thus not turn the engine over (or the opposite happen and it doesn't disengage) Can happen if vehicle is not used much. Penetration oil and manually flick the dog usually frees it up.

what does it mean when it ONLY pops out but it doesnt spin? i have this problem at the moment on my toyota hilux 2007 model, is the starter motor fucked?

Both of those starter are being tested without a load .

Even a bad one will work sometimes.
