Something broke inside our oven and the door wouldn't stay shut. It's a very old Scholtes oven passed down to us from grandparents. I googled but couldn't find much about fixing this sort of thing so when I fixed it I thought I'd do a crude impromptu video so that I could share the solution with others.
In our case the cable connecting the door to the spring had broken (both of them). So I used a bike brake cable to connect the hinge to the spring (the spring wasn't broken thankfully). I used a terminal block to make a loop in the bike cable so that I could attach it to the spring. The spring should be stretch a little bit so that the cable is taught which will keep the door closed. If it's too tight the door will slam shut easily which is very dangerous. So you want it just tight enough to keep the door shut but not so tight that the door won't stay open at a 45 degree angle.
If you have questions or if this video has helped you please let me know. Sorry for the audio quality I was holding the camera myself as I was laying on the floor.
Thank you for posting this!
