Gordon MacRae was able to break into the pop scene with this song. It was being played alongside the hits of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and others. One of the finest singer-actor I've seen and heard.

  • Thank you for uploading this song. Beautiful! I am a huge MacRae fan! What year was this song released?

  • @cscheuerman it was released in 1958, Capitol 4033

  • one of the earliest songs i learned - from my folks 78RPM. Is he the same person who sang By The Light of the Silvery Moon with Doris Day? very good audio quality!

  • Yup!

  • Yes, the very same guy who sang with Doris Day also in On Moonlight Bay, and with Shirley Jones in Oklahoma and Carousel. This guy is arguably the best baritone of all time although somewhat underrated. His voice is so versatile that he could blend well with ladies like Jo Stafford and Canada's queen of songs -Gisele MacKenzie. He also sang and starred in some classic operettas.

  • Gordon was a huge star back in the 50's but hardly ever ever gets any air-play on the radio these days. SO UNFAIR!!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this - such a wonderful voice

  • :( There is another version with him (much better than this) it was the version we knew in Mexico in City back in 1959. I don't know which version is the original but the other one is superior.

  • Onsop, the flipside of this song is: A Man Once Said. Can you upload this song? Thanks.

  • The story that circulated when this song was released stated that Gordon MacRae hated it but did it for his teenage daughter. As far as I know, he never released another of this type. I've enjoyed this song however along with others by him!

  • This record charted at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1958. Also recorded by the Gainors.

  • @aco0361 Hi there....Glad to see you're a GM fan...you obvioulsy have great taste. However I must disagree with you when you say he's "underrated". have been an international opera/musical singer for 22 years and let me tell you...people who really know and understand the art of singing (as in the people who turn their love of singing into a career) revere and respect GM to a huge degree. I agree with you that he was the best baritone operating in the music theatre world , Pure beauty.

  • i've been looking for this song for years and thanks to you tube at long last i finally heard and added it to my favorite. hurra!!!

  • Folks, I'll not tie up this Gordon site any further with paranormal talk as it's meant for Gordon and his music..unless i subsequently receive significant and accurate information - that I can confirm - re; my previous postings..then I'll pass it onto you. Everything prior is accurate to the best of my knowledge unless i discover otherwise.

  • I have not yet been able to verify this story from Sheila's side, but my brother in law, a part time singer/actor and Gordon fan, once spoke with Gordon's family sometime after his death and, when my relative opined that it was such a shame that Gordon's alcohol problems affected him outside of his great voice, the stunning response he received was "you'd drink too, if you knew what he did".....followed by a finger pointing skyward. I can only say my relative is honest to a fault.
