Blue Dogs and Cajuns on the River
July 23 - September 18, 2011
Organized in part by the New Orleans Museum of Art
Blue Dogs and Cajuns on the River features over fifty original paintings that illustrate the progression of George Rodrigue's forty-year career and reveal the origins of his iconic Blue Dog. The exhibition includes a series of Rodrigue's famous Blue Dog paintings from the New Orleans Museum of Art, as well as signature works from local collectors and the artist's personal collection.
Also included in the exhibition are Rodrigue's early oak tree paintings, portraits of Louisiana governors and examples from his hurricane series. To round out the exhibition, Rodrigue's portrait of Mike the Tiger will be shown alongside a recently completed painting of an LSU-clad Blue Dog and a new work entitled Cajuns and Blue Dogs on the River, created specifically for the LSU Museum of Art's exhibition.
