This is a tribute to arranger, conductor and composer Les Baxter. He recorded his best known music and was most popular during the "golden age of high-fidelity" decade of the 1950's. He was the music arranger at Capitol Records. He had access to large orchestras and recorded most things without overdubbing. Ironically, after the advent of stereophonic recording, true full-range high-fidelity recording was apparently not considered as important. Even today, with superior digital equipment, the "natural" sound quality so important to great music is seldom considered in popular music. This oversite is quite noticable in overused synthetic film sound effects. "Rain" captures the sense of musical enjoyment.

  • @Dogsledfan - Thunder at 0:55. Les scored 100s of sci-fi & horror movies and had access to the 'effects'. It was written he could have musicians record for an entire movie in just a few hours - any 'mistakes' in the music were just covered over with sound effects!

My playlist for Les runs over 3 hours & I've got 500 playlists! Come have a listen! Read my profile for a shortcut to access the lists.

  • Never heard of Les before, but really grooved along, thankyou Muse

  • Quite enjoyable and a fitting tribute to one of our unsung masters of 20th Century music.

  • Very nicely done!
