I experimented with a fun opening for this one, dedicated to Esther Williams, known as The Million Dollar Mermaid for her performances in MGM aqua-musicals. The original background music was her performing a duet with Ricardo Montalban, "Baby, It's Cold Outside", from the 1949 film "Neptune's Daughter", but I had to do an audioswap due to an alleged music copyright issue. Her visiting cards at her home read, "Yes, I Still Swim". Enjoy!

  • Esther Williams was not just an MGM superstar, but she was a genre unto herself. Nobody else did this at the time, just like Sonja Henie on the ice, Esther combined music with swimming. She single handedly invented syncronised swimming as a result, before Esther, it was known as water ballet. Dearest Esther we all love you very much and god bless for 2010. XXXXXXXXXX

  • I can't believe I have never heard of her. I am 18 years old, and very into the vintage era!! I am looking into a Pin Up photoshoot for myself....and I came across her line fo bathingsuites, and I was like who is this woman!? Absolutely beautiful woman!!

SHE WAS SO SWEET AND CUTE! LOOK AT HER SHOULDERS(MEANT FOR STRONG SWIMMING!) FERNANDO LAMAS WANTED HER TO STAY HOME AFTER THEY MARRIED...AND SHE DID FOR HIM!

IN THE MOVIE(MILLION dOLLER MERMAID) SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T REALLY ALLOW FOR THE WEIGHT OF THAT CROWN ON HER HEAD AND SERIOUSLY INJURED HER NECK ON THAT TOWER DIVE IN THE FIRST SCENE. DIANE SAWYER VISITED JUST RECENTLY WITH HER IN HER HOME.

  • @myrnaloysboy Haha, actually, he's been comming around to TCM. I think he is too competitive, he gets irked because I can name the cast! Haha. But those were the movies of my parents' days and when they all started to showup on TV when I was a kid, they'd talk and I'd listen: "Oh look, that's Rita Hayworth, wasn't she something!". I will say they made alot of good movies back then. Tess. PS, we BOTH ignored The World Cup..Booooorrrrrring!

  • @Pattycakessmiles Its good that your kids like the old timers; we must all remember that these people invested Hollywood and movie sound acting. Make your husband sit down and enjoy and old black and white movie - surely its better than the World Cup!!
