Students celebrate their graduation from Thames Valley University

Thursday 25 November 2010

Students from Thames Valley University (TVU) in West London celebrated the successful completion of their studies this week at graduation ceremonies which took place on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 November at Wembley Stadium. The graduating students came from across the University's Faculties of Arts, Health and Human Sciences, and Professional Studies.

They were joined by an impressive line up of honoraries that this year included Alistair Telfer (Doctor of the University, Hospitality), Surinder Arora (Professor of the University, Hospitality) Dr Chan Cheng (Doctor of the University, Law), Professor Stephen Page (Doctor of the University), Richard Bradbury (Doctor of the University), Dr Julia Macgill-Cuerden (Emeritus Scholar of the University, Health), Dr Stephen Chadwick (Professor of the University, Health), Janice Stephens (Professor of the University, Health), Pete Townsend (Doctor of the University, Arts) and Dr. William Maton-Howarth (Professor of the University, Health), as well as the University's new Chancellor, Laurence Geller. As President and CEO of Strategic Hotels and Resorts, Laurence came to the University with extensive experience in the hospitality industry and received an honorary doctorate.

Congratulating all of the graduates, the University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter John said:

'I congratulate all our graduating students as they prepare to embark on a new chapter of their lives. I hope that the lessons of this chapter will remain with them however and in particular that the ethos of being both a good employee and a good citizen -- an ethos so embedded in the vision and life of the University- will become their ethos too. The University continues to be inspired by a genuine belief in the power of higher education to transform the lives of individuals. It is this founding principle, which can be traced back to the Lady Byron School in 1860, that underpins what the University does and stands for'.
